Long Time No See

I don't spend enough time here anymore. Aside from being in this place, I don't really write at all anymore. I am probably too busy (doubtfully). In the past this has been a place I come to when I need to escape my reality. However I think my outlook on escaping my reality has changed. It's not good. You can't run from reality. You have to confront it.

It's good in concept but I still haven't figured out how to do it. Now I run by other means. It's been my curse for as long as I recall. It's the reason I am here now.

I missed this place, though I don't know that I'm really here. In the past I have written just to vent. I wrote about what I didn't understand in class or what I was going through with one girl or another. I think maybe my problems are too real to discuss here. There are things I'm not admitting to myself that I don't ever want to be true. And for now they're going to stay that way..

I like to think I got past the place where I just write to keep track of things or vent. I prefer to write now because I have something on my mind that is interesting. However maybe I still need that space to vent. I do it sometimes on twitter. It's always an ambiguous subtweet, usually about my girl or my job. When do things get to perfect? That's a laugh. I'm too old to think there is a divine destination.. That is unless I was still a Christian.

Anyway. I'm a work now. I'm 31. I have responsibilities that need taking care of. So I'll be back later.. Maybe..

Train vs. Menage

The Breakfast Club was talking about the difference between "running a train" and having a "ménage à trois" when two men are involved this morning. I was hoping they would post the video of the discussion on youtube but they didn't so I must post the response I came up with somewhere else. This is my blog so I can do what I want:

It's a train if the guys aren't doing anything with each other, just to the girl. It would only be a ménage if they did stuff with each other too. There is no word for girls running a train on a dude, but if two girls are performing on the dude and not each other, that's not a ménage either. Finally, if the dude is just watching two girls get it on but isn't doing stuff to both of them, technically that's not a ménage either.

The more you know..

Ego

Some of me thinks you'll never fully appreciate all that I am and all that I can be.

And some of me thinks that all that I am and all that I can be really isn't that much..

Hug Life

If you haven't figured it out yet, there's two sides to The Mulatto. In actuality there's many more than that, but for any given subject, there's two sides. If we're talking about color, there's the black and the white of it, and so on.

Let's talk about life. What is Hug Life? It's an ode to the late great Tupac Shakur who had Thug Life tatted across the abdomen. It's an homage to hip hop music which he helped to make great. It's the darkness behind that music. It's a dedication to the hood that a lot of us who make and appreciate the music came from.

On the other hand, it's about the good things in life. It's about taking hold of those wonderful things. It's an idea and an action. Hug Life is about that life.. The life of embrace. The life of love for family and friends.. It's also about loving life in general with as simple a gesture as a hug. What it do, life? Gimme a hug.

44th

Yesterday was MLK Jr. Day. Also yesterday, the first black President of the United States was inaugurated as President for a second time. As a product of a relationship between a black man and a white woman I can't help but feel like the stars aligned for a moment. Yesterday indeed felt like something to behold.

GIFs From Me To You

Found this hilarity today:

That inspired me to make this:

Which I intended to set as my twitter avatar but then I realized twitter doesn't allow animated GIFs anymore since September. :(

Oh well..

Imani

Today is Ujima for those who celebrate Kwanzaa. I don't really celebrate Kwanzaa so here's what Wikipedia says:

Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together.

I studied Kwanzaa growing up because I went to an all black (and one mulatto *wink*) Catholic school in the hood of Detroit with enough black teachers (and a black Jesus!) to learn a thing or two about African roots.

I used to know all the days of Kwanzaa. The one that I remembered with no effort at all is the seventh day: Imani, which means Faith.

Lately I have wondered if I wanted to bring children into this world. This world scares me. I ask myself if I feel I am strong enough to grow a human being from acorn to mighty oak in a world where gravity is law and everything falls.

I have confidence issues and am the ultimate worrier with worst case scenario kernels popping in my brain at will. Not to mention my other issues with my personal growth. You ever look at your life and feel like you are moving in reverse more often than not?

I always told myself I wanted to get it all together before I have kids. Can anybody really become that prepared for children? Probably not. I don't know. I won't know until I do it. Only experience can teach these kinds of things.

So I decided today that I will have children. I decided that I will name my first child (more likely first girl) after the seventh day of Kwanzaa. Faith is a necessity for having children and accomplishing most anything in life. So if I am given the blessing of a child, I will let her be my faith. In addition, Imani is the same day as New Years, which I recently realized is my favorite holiday. I love new beginnings more than anything. I love forgiving yourself for your shortcomings and trying one year harder to be more. This new year, it's all about doing more in 2013. Just Do More.

Thus, this year I will commit to having a child in the future and I will complete my mixtape. I will let faith guide me. It's gonna be a good year y'all. I'll see you there.
